Palmerston Square Pollinator Patch is a community collaboration. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Chosen by the City of Toronto’s Beautiful Streets program, AlterEden organized a neighbourhood all ages team to de-pave and restore to natural beauty an underused section of the square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plants were chosen for their fitness to withstand the dry, partially shady location where salt from the adjacent parking lot would be a Winter impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plants were grouped into colour blocks of blue, yellow and red, to appeal to bees and butterflies. They love large drifts of colour, it makes their visits more efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colour blocking also makes a big impact for us visually and prevents a long species list from looking chaotic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This previously unused space became part of an art, music and nature discovery hub, evidence that we can save paved paradises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
